Belarus records 12 temperature highs in two days
May 6, Pozirk. Twelve high temperature records for May 3 and 4, including ones going back more than 60 years, have been broken at weather stations in Belarus, according to Pozirk’s analysis of Biełhidramiet’s data.
On May 4, air temperatures rose to 27.4 and 27.3 degrees Celsius in Lepiel and Šarkaŭščyna, with the previous highs, 24.7C and 23.9C, respectively, set in 1963. Pružany recorded a temperature of 27.5C, significantly more than the previous high of 26.2C set in 1966.
The highest temperature was seen in Pinsk and Lelčycy, 28.4C. Lelčycy’s previous high for May 3 and 4 dates back to May 4, 1990, when the air there warmed up to 26.1C.
A 49-year record of 26.6C was broken in Vysokaje, with the new one being 27.5C.
A record high of 28.1C was recorded in Mazyr, against 24.7C in 1990; 27.6C in Vierchniadźvinsk (25.7C in 2018); 27.3C in Łyntupy (against 23.1C in 2002); 27.2C in Lida (against 25.6C in 2012); 26.9C in Narač (against 22.8C in 2018); and 26.5C in Ašmiany (against 23.7C in 2012).
Hrodna saw a temperature of 26.5C, which equaled the high set in 1977.
The air temperature in Narač hit 26.1C on May 3, compared with 25.1C in 1977.
Only five temperature records were set at weather stations across the country in April, 45 times fewer than in March. Cold records were broken in April, while March saw a series of heat records.
Biełhidramiet forecasts temperature spikes of up to 30C in Belarus between May 5 and May 7, with much colder weather in the north and northwest on May 6 and 7.
