Ukraine sanctions Łukašenka’s sons, close ally Šejman

April 30, Pozirk. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced new sanctions against 16 Belarusian nationals and 11 entities in a video address on April 29.
“This is a signal to many of our partners that pressure must be applied to de-escalate this war and reduce its intensity,” he said, at the same time stressing that Belarus “should not be drawn into the war.”
Among those sanctioned is Viktar Šejman, a close ally of Alaksandar Łukašenka, whom Kyiv identified as one of the organizers of sanctions-evasion schemes.
Others are Łukašenka’s sons Viktar and Dźmitryj, sanctioned for their involvement in exporting goods in violation of international sanctions, supplying dual-use items and facilitating their re-export through Belarus. Pavieł Muraviejka, chief of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces, is also on the list.
Earlier this year, Ukraine imposed sanctions on Łukašenka for his support for Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Recent Ukrainian sanctions also target Belarusian enterprises that produce artillery shells for the Russian army, including the Minsk-based Termoplast plant, the Minsk Forging Plant and IK9, which is affiliated with the penal colony in the Mahiloŭ region and reportedly manufactures shell packaging. NefteKhimDiagnostika is a company where “ammunition is tested,” Kyiv added.
The Viciebsk Plant of Electrical Measuring Instruments reportedly supplies equipment for the repair and modernization of Russian armored vehicles, while Radyjotechnika manufactures military equipment components, it noted.
Zelensky’s website also listed the Minsk-based 407 Technics, which repairs Russian aircraft, as well as Chip and Dip, a supplier of electronic components, measuring devices and tools. In 2024, the US Department of the Treasury imposed restrictions on a Russian company with the same name.
In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.
