Łukašenka: US could learn “real democracy” from Belarus
April 17, Pozirk. US President Donald Trump “has done a great deal of harm, but he has also shown the whole world the true face of the USA and the capabilities of the USA,” Alaksandar Łukašenka has told Rick Sanchez of the Moscow-controlled RT.
The Belarusian ruler’s press office has released some excerpts from the interview, where he commented on the current international situation, criticizing the US policies while largely avoiding direct attacks on Trump.
The US may be “a great power, but not a superpower,” it quoted Łukašenka as saying. The politician argued that every country in the world, including China, can see that Washington lacks true superpower status. He urged the US not to “meddle in China,” adding that Beijing’s strength is such that Washington would be unable to confront it.
Łukašenka also warned the US against a potential confrontation with Russia, saying the country’s vast territory makes it impervious to missile attacks. “Missiles will run out before they can cover the whole of Russia,” he said, adding that Iran had demonstrated similar resilience.
The Belarusian politician claimed the US should “learn democracy” from Belarus, arguing that his country offers “real democracy” and “real human rights.” “What human rights can you talk about if you’re killing people? You killed a person – what rights does he have? He’s dead,” he said, referring to US actions in Venezuela and Iran, as well as Israel’s military operation in Gaza.
He concluded that US policy is guided by interests rather than being value-based, arguing that conflict with Iran is driven by a desire to control oil and gas resources.
Łukašenka also spoke about a potential major deal between Belarus and the US, its possible terms, what he described as a “special path” for Washington to resume cooperation with Russia via Belarus and the prospects of his meeting with Trump.
