Cichanoŭskaja congratulates Hungary’s Magyar on election victory

April 13, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja congratulated Péter Magyar of Hungary’s Tisza Party on the victory in the 2026 Hungarian parliamentary election.
“I look forward to working together to strengthen a free, peaceful and united Europe, built on democracy, rule of law and the will of the people,” she said on X.
On April 12, Tisza secured a constitutional majority, ending the 16-year rule of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party, which pursued anti-European, anti-Ukrainian and pro-Russian policies, particularly in recent years. Voter turnout reached a historic peak, with nearly 80 percent of eligible voters casting their ballots.
Orbán’s rule was also marked by Hungary’s consistent opposition to the tightening of the European Union’s sanctions against Belarus and Russia. Hungary was the only EU country to hand Alaksandar Łukašenka diplomatic credentials after what the EU called a rigged 2020 vote.
