KGB brands Belarusian Helsinki Committee as “extremist” group

April 6, Pozirk. The Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB) designated the Belarusian Helsinki Committee as an “extremist” group on March 31, says the updated official register, which now contains 346 organizations.
The KGB named Dźmitryj Markušeŭski and Pavieł Levinaŭ as members, blacklisting the groups’ websites at belhelcom.org and youarenotwrong.webflow.io, as well as several social media pages associated with the rights defenders from the Belarusian Helsinki Committee.
Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus have equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.
