Łukašenka’s office announces his conversation with Trump (updated)

August 15, Pozirk. US President Donald Trump and Alaksandar Łukašenka have had a telephone conversation, the Belarusian strongman’s office reported.

“The two leaders discussed issues pertaining to the bilateral agenda, regional matters, and the situation in hot spots, including Ukraine. An agreement was reached to continue contacts. The Belarusian president invited Donald Trump and his family to Minsk, and the invitation was accepted,” the report said.

On his social network Truth Social, Trump confirmed the conversation with “the highly respected President of Belarus,” calling it “a wonderful talk.”

According to Trump, the purpose of the call was to thank Łukašenka for freeing 16 prisoners recently. “We are also discussing the release of 1,300 additional prisoners. Our conversation was a very good one. We discussed many topics, including President Putin’s visit to Alaska,” the US president said.

He concluded by saying that he looks forward to meeting with Łukašenka in the future.

Earlier, on August 13, the US Department of State issued a country report stating that there had been no significant change in Belarus’ human rights situation in 2024.

The Trump-Putin summit is expected to start later today.
