Presidential Sports Club seeks powers to track mobile phones’ identifiers

August 5, Pozirk. The Presidential Sports Club (PSC), a Belarusian association led by Alaksandar Łukašenka’s son Dźmitryj, plans to launch a single IMEI register in Belarus, the BelPol intelligence group reported.
The database would allow the PSC to track all mobile phones sold in the country.
An IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number is a unique 15-digit code assigned to each mobile device.
“If the PSC receives the exclusive right to register all mobile devices in the country, this new, controlled and profitable market will bring a stable cash flow and full digital control of all mobile devices,” BelPol said.
It pointed out that Minsk does not have a state or private entity keeping track of IMEI numbers in a centralized way.
In May, BelPol released a video, in which it accused the PSC, whose official mission is to promote sports, of involvement in corruption schemes profiting the Belarusian strongman’s family.
