Power supply to Mahiloŭ chemical giant to be restored within a week – energy minister

July 14, Pozirk. It may take engineers a week to restore power supply to Mahiloŭchimvałakno, a Mahiloŭ-based state-owned chemical plant manufacturing polyethylene terephthalate, polyester fiber and polymer films, following the July 9–10 thunderstorms.
The state-run media quoted Energy Minister Dzianis Maroz as saying that a key line supplying power to equipment has been damaged. The plant employs more than 5,000 workers.
Earlier, Emergencies Minister Vadzim Siniaŭski said that five high-voltage lines were left without power in Mahiloŭ as a result of thunderstorms and wind gusts.
A woman camping outdoors was killed by a tumbled tree in Mahiloŭ. Several people were injured.
A similar storm one year ago damaged power lines, disrupted water supply and killed seven people in the Homiel region.
