UK to gradually raise duties on nitrogen fertilizers from Belarus

June 28, Pozirk. The United Kingdom is introducing a gradual increase in duties on nitrogen fertilizers, including on carbamide from Belarus and Russia, according to guidance on imports from these countries by the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT).
“This is a targeted measure designed to deny Russia and Belarus access to Most Favored Nation tariff treatment on their exports of these goods to the UK, while balancing the needs of UK importers in diversifying their supply chains away from Russian-origin sources,” the guidance said.
According to the DBT regulation, the item “Mineral or Chemical Fertilizers, Nitrogenous” will be subjected to a 10-percent extra duty from July 18, 2025 to June 30, 2026; 20 percent from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027; and 35 percent from July 1, 2027.
In March 2022, the UK introduced a 35-percent duty on imports from Belarus and Russia of animal an plant fertilizers, as well as phosphate, potash and mixed fertilizers.
In July of the same year, London imposed a ban on the import of fertilizers, except carbamide.
