Ukraine, Russia complete largest prisoner swap at Belarus border

May 25, Pozirk. The largest prisoner exchange since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war has been completed at the border between Ukraine and Belarus, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said on Telegram.
Moscow and Kyiv agreed to release 1000 prisoners each during talks in Istanbul last week. The prisoner swap started on May 23 when the sides exchanged 270 servicemen and 120 civilians.
The remaining prisoners were released this weekend: each side brought home 307 people yesterday and 303 today.
Last year, a dozen exchanges were officially held between the warring countries. Five exchanges took place in 2025, with the most recent one held in Belarus on May 6 when each side released 205 captives.
