Baltic states to disconnect from Soviet-era power grid on February 8-9
February 6, Pozirk. The Baltic states will synchronize with the ENTSO-E, the European continental electricity network, on February 8-9, disconnecting from BRELL, a Soviet-era power grid, which includes Belarus and Russia, lsm.lv reported.
Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed the move yesterday and did not rule out potential provocations or disinformation campaigns. “All our authorities and companies responsible for electricity supply are on high alert,” he said.
Leaving BRELL would be another important step towards strengthening security and independence after Latvia’s refusal to buy Russian and Belarusian gas and oil, the politician noted.
The Baltic states announced their decision to disconnect from BRELL in August 2023.
