Belarusian schools brainwash students to shore up support for the authoritarian leader.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One month after the prime minister cut short his leave to prepare education for a new school year, the Belarusian ruler held a conference with officials to express his discontent with the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Law enforcement agencies to monitor textbook content<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>One month ago, just two weeks before the new school year, \u0141uka\u0161enka directed that the Prosecutor General\u2019s Office and State Control Committee set up a censorship team for school textbooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied has personally contributed content by editing the textbook titled \u201cGenocide of the Belarusian People\u201d intended to thrust the topic of World War II into the spotlight by highlighting genocidal dimensions of massacres committed by the Germans in 1941-43.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarusian ruler has moved to revamp the education system in an apparent effort to bolster his standing among young people after failing to generate enough momentum with young voters during his 2020 campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key lesson that the Belarusian ruler has learned from the peaceful postelection protests is that his government should work harder to bring up politically loyal and obedient citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his view, patriotism has nothing to do with the country and the people. He is expecting students to profess love for him and his government. He sees order and discipline as the means to success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Serfdom as solution to labor shortages<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarusian leader held a conference with education officials on September 21 to discuss ways to stop human capital flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many young people and their parents are fed up with indoctrination and political purges at schools, so many prefer to work abroad on graduation or pursue higher education degrees in Europe or North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0141uka\u0161enka and officials have come up with a solution: graduates must be forced to work at designated jobs longer after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka&#8217;s system already dictates what jobs state-funded students should take under a policy known as &#8220;raspredeleniye&#8221; (&#8220;compulsory job assignment&#8221;). Under the current rules, the compulsory job assignment period is two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarusian leader proposed that the government extend it for graduates of state-funded university programs to five to seven years and introduce it for graduates of tuition-based programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He told officials to inform the public \u201csmartly\u201d about the extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0141uka\u0161enka said that he is aware that young people were leaving the country after receiving advanced training at home. But he would not admit that young talent is unhappy with low salaries and political reprisals. He would not acknowledge that young people are put off by political purges at government-funded establishments and state companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is building a serfdom system to force young people to stay, in a bid to eliminate labor force shortages.
