As the US presidential election approaches, the world is watching the contest between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. While the United States is not Belarus’ primary trading partner, Washington’s policies have far-reaching effects on the global economy. Trade relations between Belarus and the United States have generally been stable under Democratic administrations, although total trade volumes have not consistently increased. In contrast, Republican leadership has typically seen an uptick in trade volumes, with the exception of the 2008 crisis, which diminished Belarusian exports during Bush\u2019s second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1995 to 2021, total trade between the two countries grew sevenfold, with Belarusian exports surpassing imports from the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Belarus ceased publishing detailed trade statistics by country in 2021, international organizations and US data indicate a significant decline in trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Trump returns to the White House, Washington may adopt a more pragmatic economic policy, potentially boosting Belarusian exports to the United States. Conversely, Harris is likely to advocate for stricter sanctions against Belarus, including trade restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
