Agusut 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Anatol Charyton\u010dyk, a senior researcher at the BEROC think tank, has told Pozirk<\/em> that the Belarusian economy faces serious overheating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, Prime Minister Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka criticized “so-called experts” warning about the risk of overheating. “The other side paints economic news only in a negative light for people who are not very knowledgeable about economic models,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, economic decision-makers are taking all risks into account, he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI assure you that the government’s economic bloc and our banking system have very professional people who know and understand all of this very well,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He dismissed assessments pointing to excessive money supply in Belarus as evidence of the experts’ poor understanding of economic processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka said that money supply could be even higher, but the government saw no need to provide more loans to the banking system at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is difficult to say what the prime minister’s assessment is based on,” Charyton\u010dyk commented. There are signs of economic overheating not only in open sources but also in indirect indicators, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In particular, there is a very large shortage in the labor market. The unemployment rate is at an all-time low. There is less than one unemployed person per vacancy, which is also a historic low. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you look at household consumption, it has risen by more than 18 percent compared with the 2021 average. This is extremely fast growth. Real wages gained 22 percent in this period. We see that in uncontrolled services, inflation rates remain high, well above the target of 5\u20136 percent. They are much higher than the non-food products whose prices are totally regulated,” Charyton\u010dyk said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the financial situation of companies has deteriorated, and there is a small deficit in foreign trade, he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In my understanding, all this indicates that the Belarusian economy is overheating. I still rate it as serious but not critical,” the economist said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that the issue is not only independent experts are concerned about it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The National Bank in its inflation report has also indicated a [money] supply gap of approximately 3 percent, or even slightly higher. Therefore, they also consider the economy to be seriously overheated,” Charyton\u010dyk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
