July 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Police have searched the Or\u0161a apartment of Ihar Ka\u017amier\u010dak, editor at Orsha.eu<\/a>, an independent regional news website, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, officials visited the apartment to prepare it for seizure, Ka\u017amier\u010dak said, according to the BAJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I have not lived there for a long time and have not left any belongings that could be of interest to the investigators,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that the search lasted about an hour. He linked it to a new criminal case that involved an “extremist” media outlet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I took part in the production of Plan B<\/em> and Belsat<\/em> shows several times,” the journalist said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both media outlets are outlawed in Belarus as extremist groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 13, the Investigative Committee opened another case against Ka\u017amier\u010dak, charging him with facilitating extremism and insulting the head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The editor fled Belarus in 2021 and has updated his website from abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Or\u0161a District and City Court added the website and its social media to the government\u2019s list of extremist content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Investigative Committee put Ka\u017amier\u010dak on the wanted list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
