July 17, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> A strong storm forced Latvia\u2019s airBaltic plane, en route from Riga to Pristina, to fly over Belarus for 20 minutes in the early hours of July 17, Delfi.lt<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appeared to be an unintentional violation of the European Union\u2019s air boycott of Belarus, which was announced after Minsk forced a Ryanair plane to land to arrest an opposition blogger and his girlfriend in May 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that incident, the EU advised European air carriers against flying to and over Belarus, and later closed its skies to Belarusian state airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight-tracking website Flightradar24 shows that airBaltic\u2019s Flight VT743 entered Belarusian airspace from Lithuania, flew over the Hrodna and Brest regions before crossing the border into Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
