July 15, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has approved draft intergovernmental agreements between Belarus and Cuba and Nicaragua “on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters,” his press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draft agreements define the basic principles and methods of cooperation in the field of customs, as well as forms of mutual assistance, it said. They envisage a procedure for interaction in sending requests and providing information for the detection, suppression and investigation of customs violations, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Customs Committee is authorized to conduct negotiations on the draft agreements and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is authorized to sign them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 12, following a meeting of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk, Belarus and Cuba signed a protocol to the intergovernmental agreement on mutual supplies, which, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Ja\u016dhien \u0160astako\u016d, sets a new benchmark for the volume of trade exchanges, up to $15 million for each party for a period of five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 27, the chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, U\u0142adzimir Kuchara\u016d, and the mayor of the Nicaraguan capital Managua, Reyna Rueda Alvarado, signed an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trade between Managua and Minsk is so small that the Belarusian Embassy in Cuba, which also manages relations with Nicaragua, does not provide any figures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A chart on the diplomatic mission’s website indicates that the volume of trade between the two countries has mainly decreased since 2017, amounting to about $1.2 million in 2021. Belarusian exports accounted for most of that amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
