July 6, Pozirk.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has said that dialogue between Minsk and Tehran is confidently expanding at all levels, his press office reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today \u0141uka\u0161enka congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian, who was elected president of Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strongman was confident that Belarus and Iran can implement all their agreements, including on turning their relationship into a strategic partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He invited Pezeshkian on an official visit to Belarus to discuss the bilateral agenda and the cooperation in international organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to \u0141uka\u0161enka, Pezeshkian’s victory confirmed his high political authority and proved that society supports the official line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reformist lawmaker Pezeshkian won 53.3 percent of the votes in the second round of voting yesterday. His conservative rival Saeed Jalili had 44.3 percent of the votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the election race, Pezeshkian criticized the Guidance Patrol’s oversight of women and the government’s handling of the Mahsa Amini case. The 22-year-old Iranian woman fell into a coma and died after receiving a beating, probably from morality police officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pezeshkian, 69, is a former cardiac surgeon. He was the minister of health and medical education in 2001\u20132005 and the first deputy speaker of Parliament in 2016\u20132020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran organized the snap election after President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political analyst Alexander Friedman told Pozirk<\/em> that Raisi’s death is unlikely to affect Belarusian-Iranian relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Iran, the president heads the government and performs representative functions but does not act as the head of state. This status is reserved for the supreme leader, elected for life by the Assembly of Experts. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has held the top job since June 4, 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
