June 13, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Poland has banned civilians from visiting areas close to the shared border with Belarus for 90 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The buffer zone includes a 60.67-kilometer section guarded by Narewka, Bia\u0142owie\u017ca, Dubicze Cerkiewne and Czeremcha outposts, the Polish interior ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In some sections it is 200 meters wide, while in the Bia\u0142owie\u017ca Forest it extends up to two kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restricted access to the border area would help combat smuggling, ensure public safety and protect police officers, border guards and military personnel, as over the past few weeks, Polish soldiers have been attacked at least 50 times at the eastern border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish serviceman Mateusz Sitek died on June 6 after being stabbed on duty while protecting the border from foreigners who tried to cross it illegally from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw sees the crisis as a \u201chybrid war\u201d against Poland, organized and coordinated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
