June 13, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> In more than four years of politically-motivated reprisals in <\/a>Belarus, authorities filed 37,189 minor offense charges to punish opponents of the government, Dissidentby<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The persecution of regime critics continues, as at least two arrests and several criminal proceedings were documented on June 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Mahilo\u016d man known as Andrej Sinicyn on VKontakte was arrested for posting comments about the Russian military; a man from Salihorsk, Minsk region, for allegedly participating in 2020 postelection protests and running an opposition Telegram chat, pro-government sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge in Mahilo\u016d sentenced D\u017amitryj Puzika\u016d to six months in prison and compulsory treatment for alcoholism for tearing down a state flag from a store, MAYDAY.TEAM reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u017amitryj Hahije\u016d is on trial in Minsk on charges of threatening violence against police officers, Mediazona<\/em> reported. His brother Alaksandar Hahije\u016d heads the national Olympic training center for winter sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Homiel Regional Court opened proceedings against exiled human rights defender Leanid Sudalenka currently based abroad, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported. Authorities persecute him on extremism-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ihar \u010cudzi\u0142o\u016dski, D\u017amitryj Lach, Alaksiej Hre\u015b and Alaksandar K\u0142uniejka, accused of participating in protests, have been on trial in Hrodna since May 31, Sudy, Zaderzhaniya. Grodno i Oblast<\/em> Telegram channel reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahilo\u016d region’s prosecutor ruled to block ineedhelpby.org <\/em>that helps Belarusian victims of politically-motivated persecution buy groceries, MAYDAY.TEAM said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 13, human rights defenders identified at least 1,396 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
