June 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has told his country’s parliament that the country would withdraw from the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The timeframe for the exit has not yet been defined, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to TASS<\/em>, he accused individual CSTO members of plotting a war against Armenia together with Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, an opposition MP said: “Then you should leave this union.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We will. Are you trying to scare me? Everything is good. We will decide when to leave. What do you think our next step should be? Can we get back? Do not worry,” Pashinyan replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Interfax<\/em>, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan downplayed these remarks by saying: “If anyone claims that the Armenian prime minister said Armenia is leaving the CSTO, they are mistaken.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February, Pashinyan told France 24<\/em> that Yerevan had put its membership in the CSTO on hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CSTO failed to properly follow the Collective Security Treaty with regard to Armenia, especially during its border conflict with Azerbaijan in 2021\u20132022, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CSTO comprises six former Soviet states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November 2023, Pashinyan skipped a CSTO summit in Minsk. Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka called the move provocative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
