June 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian Armed Forces are prepared to use nuclear weapons, said Pavie\u0142 Muraviejka, chief of General Staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the defense ministry, Muraviejka was commenting on the ongoing second stage of what was announced as a tactical nuclear drill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the Armed Forces started performing training tasks in cooperation with the Russian military in “all organizational and technical aspects.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troops deployed Iskander (Western reporting name SS-26 Stone) missile systems to positions, received and mounted “special munitions” and went on combat alert duty, the general continued. “Our aviation also performed a similar task,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The peculiarity of our exercise was that until the last moment, aviation unit commanders did not know who will be allowed to perform training and combat tasks, and from which airfield the aircraft will take off. The signal was given just 30 minutes before the start, and our airmen accomplished this mission with dignity and honor,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in the week, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the second stage of the nuclear maneuvers. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin said his soldiers will participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja said the drill was intended to intimidate the West and force it reduce its support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
