June 12, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> New instances of politically-motivated persecution documented in Belarus on June 11 indicated unabated reprisals against regime critics and their online activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pro-government sources reported two arrests linked to 2020 postelection protests, accusing the arrested of aggressive behavior towards law enforcers and calling to block Russia-bound railway traffic, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 23, a judge in Minsk jailed a man for seven days after he had been arrested at a hospital emergency room over a tattoo with the Pahonia coat of arms, zerkalo.io<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few days later, an electrician was fined 1,200 rubels (about $377) in Lida, Hrodna region, for sharing opposition content on TikTok, the Pravo Imeyut <\/em>Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities branded Facebook and VKontakte pages of the ethnic store Knia\u017a Vita\u016dt along with several opposition social media accounts extremist content, the information ministry’s website said. These include Brati Yakovlevi<\/em>, Daily Storm<\/em> and Chashniki bez cenzury<\/em> on Telegram, Svabodny Salihorsk <\/em>on Vkontakte, Elena<\/em>, Belarus <\/em>and based.hrodzienski <\/em>on TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Court sentenced Elena Ramanauskien\u0117, who was in charge of marketing at the Belorus health resort in Lithuania\u2019s Druskininkai, to six years in prison on espionage charges in a trial behind closed doors, ONT<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge in Moscow extended the detention of Belarusian national Siarhiej Jeramieje\u016d until July 30, the Strana Dlya Zhizni <\/em>Telegram channel said. Earlier, Russian investigators charged Jeramieje\u016d with terrorism and arrested him for allegedly disrupting military deliveries from North Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have put up for an auction an office property in Minsk owned by human rights activist Valancin Stefanovi\u010d serving a lengthy prison sentence on charges widely seen as politically motivated, according to e-auction.by<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 12, human rights defenders identified at least 1,396 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
