October 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> “Lithuania has virtually banned us from moving our goods across the border. According to international law, this step constitutes economic aggression,” said Pavie\u0142 Muraviejka, deputy head of the Belarusian Security Council, at an ideology seminar organized by the Minsk City Executive Committee. Excerpts from Muraviejka’s speech were published in a special edition of Vecherniy Minsk<\/em> on October 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“From the point of view of simple logic, we have all grounds to cut a vital corridor by force of arms. And I assume that in other circumstances no one in the world would condemn us. But not today, when the West is putting unprecedented pressure on our country,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The security official also mentioned the June resolution of the International Labour Organization. It recommends ILO members to review their relations with Minsk for violating its obligations under conventions on freedom of association and collective bargaining. By adopting this document, the organization “blocked the economic development” of Belarus and “violated the principle of peaceful coexistence,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muraviejka called Western sanctions against Belarus an expression of the “usual unfair competition” and a grab of its “place in the world markets.” But the Belarusian economy has proven to be resilient, he claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, he admitted that the “sanction policy has had a negative impact on the functioning of certain financial systems,” complicating transactions in dollars and euros, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian Railways, by decision of the government, terminated a contract for the transit of mineral fertilizers with the sanctioned Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij in 2022, because Vilnius considered it inconsistent with national interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
