June 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Polish President Andrzej Duda has signed into law amendments dealing mostly with assistance to Ukrainian nationals, that also facilitate procedures for the recognition of Belarusian education certificates, his press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amendments provide for the recognition of school education certificates issued by countries that denounced international agreements on mutual recognition of certificates and diplomas with Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian government terminated the agreement in October 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joanna Mucha, the Polish deputy education minister, linked the amendment to a recent refusal by Belarus to certify the validity of high school diplomas, making holders\u2019 higher education in Poland impossible. She added that about 5,000 Belarusians could benefit from the amendement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a study by the iSANS think tank, the Belarusian government has recently taken steps to discourage youths from studying in the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researchers noted that officials\u2019 efforts to limit Belarusians\u2019 access to European education are \u201caccompanied by unprecedented activity of Russia and China in the field of educational cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
