June 6, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has called on Europe to simplify legalization procedures for Belarusians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Hundreds of thousands of Belarusians abroad have actually become stateless,” she told the Luxembourg Solutions forum today, according to her aide Franak Via\u010dorka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The newly born children cannot acquire any citizenship. Married couples cannot divorce, which deepens their hard personal situation,” she said. “These are just a few of so many problems we face and they need solutions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja urged Europeans to recognize her compatriots’ expired passports, to provide them with travel documents and not to insist that they obtain certificates from the Belarusian police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also advocated easier visa procedures for Belarusians, stating that her United Transitional Cabinet was “ready to collaborate on security checks here with all the countries concerned.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja began her visit to Luxembourg on June 5. She is expected to meet with Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Claude Wiseler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
