June 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A total of 18 people have been arrested since December in connection with the activities of Russian and Belarusian intelligence services in Poland, Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said<\/a>, as reported by Gazeta Prawna<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have no doubt that there are people who are ready to threaten the life, health and property of Polish citizens on the orders of the secret services of a foreign state, namely Russia,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Semoniak added that “10 people are in custody precisely on charges of planning or attempting to commit acts of sabotage.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, these activities are part of “a larger whole that includes Russian or Belarusian cyberattacks or pressure at the border.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siemoniak also noted that 10 of those arrested were linked to acts of sabotage; “the rest of the 18 stories were directly aimed at striking a blow at the security of the Polish state”; one involved an attempt to “carry out or organize an assassination attempt on the president of Ukraine.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the national prosecutor’s office of Poland charged three individuals, including two Belarusians and one Pole, with conducting activities for Russian intelligence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those charges may be related to the detention of several people suspected of arson, including an alleged attempt to set fire to a paint factory in Wroclaw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk indicated that the suspects were believed to be part of the criminal world and that similar sabotage attempts were planned in other European countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
