May 27, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Minsk prosecutors have sent to court a case against two foreigners accused of organizing an illegal migration ring, the Prosecutor General’s office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said that the suspects formed groups of irregular migrants in Russia to bring them illegally to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Belarus, the foreigners and a local resident found temporary accommodation for migrants and charged them a fee of “at least $10 per person per day.” Investigators said the migrants stayed at 11 addresses in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They planned to illegally cross into “foreign states” without visas and bypassing official checkpoints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accused foreigners are held in pretrial detention. The Belarusian is being prosecuted in a separate case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the beginning of the year, European Union (EU) countries have thwarted 17,071 attempts to violate their borders from Belarusian territory, an increase of 18.4 percent over the same period in 2023, according to border agencies. As of May 23, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland reported a combined total of 5,952 such attempts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April, the EU prevented 6,327 border crossings from Belarus, a record in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
