May 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The foreign ministry in Vilnius is aware of the detention of a Lithuanian woman in Belarus on espionage charges, ministry spokeswoman Paulina Levickyt\u0117 told the BNS<\/em> news agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are aware of the situation and are providing consular assistance,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The detainee, Elena Romanauskien\u0117, will stand trial at the Minsk City Court on June 3, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The circumstances of her arrest are unknown. The trial will be held behind closed doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According<\/a> to the Lithuanian news website 15min<\/em>, Romanauskien\u0117, 59, was born in Minsk and worked as marketing head at the Belarus health resort in Druskininkai, Lithuania. According to some reports, she holds Belarusian citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the woman ran for the local council in Druskininkai, according to election authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
