May 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Poland has granted international protection to more than 8,100 Belarusians, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka said<\/a> after meeting with the director of the country’s Department of Consular Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polish government “maintains its approach of maximum support for Belarusian civil society,” \u0141atu\u0161ka said, as quoted by the United Transitional Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland keeps issuing humanitarian visas to Belarusians at risk of arrest, he said. However, a person may receive this visa just once, to flee the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw is going to draft visa legislation to set “uniform norms” for its consuls. “Work on the new law is planned to start in June,” \u0141atu\u0161ka said. “In August, it will be published on the portal of Poland’s legal acts, after which we may submit our proposals during the public discussion.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also touched on the recent suspension of the Business Harbour program, which allowed IT professionals from Belarus and some other countries to do business in Poland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program’s future will be discussed after an audit, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
