May 8, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Lithuanian customs officers have seized two Tesla Cybertrucks manufactured in 2023 on their way to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According<\/a> to the Delfi<\/em> news portal, the pickup trucks cost more than \u20ac200,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The customs officers suspect that they are intended for a buyer from Russia. The EU imposed sanctions on car exports to the country back in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drivers were released after questioning. The Customs Department’s criminal service launched an investigation into smuggling and violation of international sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The portal noted that the customs tightened control over the export of electric cars to third countries. Delfi<\/em> cited a 2023 survey saying that almost every second car exported to countries such as Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and valued at \u20ac50,000 or more ended up in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania stopped allowing cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters and transit plates, worth more than \u20ac50,000, to enter Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April, the Polish Ministry of Finance called the imposed restrictions “an effective measure to eradicate the practice of sanctions evasion.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
