April 30, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The ONT<\/em> TV channel aired a documentary featuring the arrest of several minors suspected of plotting terrorist attacks in Belarus on the instructions of Ukrainian security services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danii\u0142 Harasim, Trafim Barysa\u016d, Siarhiej <\/a>\u017dyhalo\u016d and 16-year-old Ukrainian national Maryya Mysyuk are among the arrested, but the exact number of detainees is unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases of politically-motivated persecution documented on April 29 targeted people who participated in 2020 postelection protests. Five, including D\u017amitryj B\u0142a\u0161\u010danica and former political prisoner Piotr Zinievi\u010d, were arrested in a police raid in Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region, Mediazona<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 26, a judge in Brest sentenced Ksenija Turub\u010duk and D\u017amitryj Mira\u0161ni\u010denka to two years of restricted freedom in home confinement as alleged participants in the 2020 round dance protest in Brest, the Brest branch of the Viasna Human Rights Center reported. At least 137 have already been convicted in this case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raman Hvazdie\u0142ka and Le\u016d Cialipka had served prison terms over 2020 protests and were released, Brest-based Viasna\u2019s rights defenders said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social media<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police arrested a man for posting a video of a wrecked road on TikTok, shared later by the independent media outlets, Viasna reported. The man was forced to apologize on camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrej Mara\u010do\u016d and Danii\u0142 Miadzialec from the Viciebsk region were jailed for three and seven days, respectively, in connection with social media posts on Odnoklassniki and TikTok, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> and the Vitebsk, ya gulayu! Novosti Vitebska<\/em> Telegram channel reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darja Zajac, Natalla Ha\u0142o\u016dka, \u015aviat\u0142ana Drobatava and Kry\u015bcina Kozie\u0142 were tried in the Hrodna region for sharing opposition content, the Pravo Imeyut<\/em> Telegram channel said. Authorities have not disclose the verdicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persecution of journalists<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interior ministry labeled the Belarus service of Germany\u2019s international broadcaster Deutsche Welle<\/em> and the UDF<\/em> news site\u2019s team and followers as extremist groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In mid-April, police searched the home of exiled journalist Alaksandar Korny\u0161a\u016d’s parents, the Belarusian Association of Journalists said. The journalist has recently talked about his health issues in an interview with the Warsaw-based Belsat <\/em>TV channel branded extremist in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspectors did not record any violations in the women’s Penal Colony No 24 in the Homiel region where several political prisoners are held, including Alena Ma\u016d\u0161uk, Palina \u0160arenda-Panasiuk, Viktoryja Kul\u0161a and Alena Hna\u016dk, Pozirk<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities moved pre-trial Detention Center No 1 from downtown Minsk to a new facility outside the city near the village of Pa\u0161kovi\u010dy, Viasna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of April 30, human rights defenders identified at least 1,392 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
