April 29, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>In the last six years, the Belarusians’ average age rose by 13 months to 41.5 years, according to data from the National Statistics Committee (Bie\u0142stat).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 1, 2024, 4,929,249 women and 4,226,729 men lived in Belarus, 0.49 and 0.56 percent fewer than in 2023. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The working-age population fell by 0.2 percent to 5,353,585.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The urban population, 7,198,285, accounted for 78.6 percent of the total population, while 1,957,693 people (21.4 percent) lived in rural areas. Bie\u0142stat recorded an annual drop for both groups of 0.2 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The population totaled 9,155,978 people on January 1, shrinking by 0.5 percent year on year, earlier reports said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142stat has kept birth and death data secret after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disputed presidential election and the crackdown that followed forced at least 200,000 people to leave Belarus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
