September 16,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>An exiled Belarusian opposition politician has filed a lawsuit with\u00a0the Court of Justice of the European Union (EU), blaming\u00a0the European Commission for schisms in his\u00a0country’s democratic movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a Telegram post today, former presidential hopeful Valer Capka\u0142a said the EU’s executive arm supported censorship and turned exiled Belarusian media into the mouthpiece of just one political group, in an apparent reference to the office of \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commission replaced the leaders who were really supported by the Belarusian people with fake organizations and appointed figures, said Capka\u0142a, whose wife Vieranika Capka\u0142a was Cichano\u016dskaja’s associate in the 2020 campaign to challenge Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commission made it easier for \u0141uka\u0161enka consolidate his power and for Russia to “occupy” Belarus and place its nuclear weapons there, Capka\u0142a charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is not immediately clear what redress Capka\u0142a seeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known as an architect of the High-Tech Park, an IT hub, Capka\u0142a fled Belarus after the central election commission had refused to register him as a contender in the 2020 presidential race and opened a criminal case against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2023, the Minsk Regional Court sentenced Capka\u0142a to 17 years in prison without the defendant being present. His persecution was widely seen as \u0141uka\u0161enka’s revenge for his presidential bid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
