April 4, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian human rights defenders have declared 13 people political prisoners, bringing the total to 1,400, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are: Dzijana Ki\u0161karenka, Anastasija Jumanava, Volha Patrusajeva, D\u017amitryj Ku\u010duk, Michai\u0142 Pietra\u0161, Juryj Chavanski, Pilip \u015aciopin, Ja\u016dhien Cybulka, Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Baravik, D\u017amitryj \u0160\u010damier, Ivan Dydy\u0161ka, Siarhiej Kruk and Andrej Anpi\u0142oha\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were arrested or imprisoned on charges or disturbing public order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The human rights defenders demanded that the Belarusian authorities release all political prisoners and others they arrested for peaceful protests in the post-election period and stop the crackdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement was signed by Viasna, the Office for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Pravavaja Inicyjatyva, Human Constanta, and the Belarusian Association of Journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u017amitryj Ku\u010duk, former chairman of the outlawed Belarusian Greens Party, was arrested on February 16 as he tried to commemorate the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in front of the Russian embassy in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 2, reports came in that he was accused of gross violations of public order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
