March 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Thirty-nine school students from the Russian-occupied part of Ukraine’s Kherson region have been transferred to the Lasnaja Palana wellness center in the Hrodna region’s Smarho\u0144 district, ONT <\/em>reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The children are between eight and 15 years old have been visited by representatives of the Belarusian Red Cross (BRC), the state television station said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It noted that the schoolchildren were transferred as part of a “humanitarian project” of Paralympic athlete Alaksiej Ta\u0142aj’s foundation “on the instructions” of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka “with the support of” the state secretary of the Union State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ONT<\/em> added that “when the children from the Kherson region are sent home,” Belarus will prepare to “welcome new little guests from Donbas.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Critics say that at least 2,500 children have been transferred from the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine to Belarus since the start of the war and subjected to pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian indoctrination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ta\u0142aj, Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij, the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, the Belarusian Red Cross and others are suspected of involvement in these transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian strongman Vladimir Putin and his children\u2019s rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, over alleged deportations of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine. The Belarusian opposition is seeking a similar warrant for \u0141uka\u0161enka on the same grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On December 1, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies suspended the Belarusian Red Cross as a member for failing to dismiss its secretary general, D\u017amitryj \u0160a\u016dco\u016d, over allegations of involvement in the transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0160a\u016dco\u016d, as well as Ta\u0142aj and his foundation, were included in the European Union’s 13th package of sanctions against Russia on February 23, 2024. Ta\u0142aj was also included in the US sanctions package linked to the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
