March 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> About 400 people celebrated Freedom Day, the 106th<\/sup> anniversary of the declaration of independence by the Belarusian National Republic, in central Vilnius tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palina Prysmakova, secretary of the BNR Rada, thanked Lithuanian authorities “for allowing us to hold this event and for letting many of us to live, work, grow and pray here.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An address by Ivonka Survilla, president of the Belarusian government in exile, was played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian politician Sakalas Gorodeckis said that Lithuanians and Belarusians had peacefully coexisted in one state for centuries, and that “two Belarusian battalions fought the Bolsheviks together with the Lithuanian army.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, he said, Belarusian fighters are standing up to Russia in Ukraine. He thanked “all those fighting for our freedom and yours” and noted that “the fate of the Belarusian people is being decided in Ukraine.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crowd also listened to a speech by opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Protesters with Belarusian historical white-red-white flags and Lithuanian flags went to a memorial outside the Belarusian embassy and then to an Evangelical church, where Belarus’ Free Choir performed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
