March 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Ukrainian parliamentary faction For Democratic Belarus has called on democratic nations to cut diplomatic ties with Belarus, MP Oleksii Honcharenko said in a statement on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dictatorship of self-proclaimed president Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka banned the celebration of Freedom Day in Belarus, the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawmakers called the struggle for Freedom Day an important part of the struggle for a free Belarus. They urged the world’s democracies to support Belarusians in that struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When \u0141uka\u0161enka is tried in The Hague, Belarusian cities will once again openly celebrate Freedom Day with white and red symbols again,” Honcharenko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freedom Day marks the proclamation of independence by the Belarusian National Republic (BNR) on March 25, 1918. The current Belarusian government does not recognize it as an official holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 2020 presidential election, any attempts to publicly celebrate anniversaries led to arrests, trials and jail terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
