March 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian border guards have found an immobile, beaten African man near a gate in the border fence between Belarus and Latvia, the State Border Committee reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the latest accusation in the dispute between Belarus and the European Union, which accused the country of “hybrid attacks” and the “instrumentalization of migrants.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee quoted the migrant as saying that “people in military uniforms beat him up at Latvian territory.” Doctors took him to a hospital in Bras\u0142a\u016d, Viciebsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Since 2021, harassment, beatings and other inhumane treatment of defenseless refugees by European security forces have led to the death of 47 foreigners: 23 at the border with Poland; 15 and nine, respectively, at the border with Latvia and Lithuania,\u201d the Belarusian border committee said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Belarusian Investigative Committee, the foreigner is a national of Congo. “Armed mercenaries” punched, kicked and used a stun gun on him, it claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Streams of migrants from Asia and Africa flowed through Belarus to Europe in the spring of 2021. European authorities foiled 31,892 illegal crossing attempts in 2022 and 42,078 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
