The young man was a minor during the mass demonstrations. The charges are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A CFO was arrested in Mahilo\u016d for &#8220;800 negative comments&#8221; about law enforcers and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, a pro-government source reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Hrodna man was arrested for participating in post-election protests, a pro-government source reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 20 journalists were arrested in Belarus in 2023, the Belarusian Association of Journalists reported. Half of them have already been sentenced to prison. Thirty-three media workers are behind bars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trials<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Navahrudak District Court, Hrodna region, considered the case of Mika\u0142aj \u017dur, <em>Pravo Imeyut<\/em> reported. He was charged with violating the procedure for organizing mass events, a minor offense. The ruling is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A man from the Navahrudak district was arrested for 10 days for posting two political videos to the Odnoklassniki social network, <em>Pravo Imeyut<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hra\u017eyna Hietka from Biaroza\u016dka, Hrodna region, was arrested for 10 days, <em>Zaderzhaniya, Sudy v Lide<\/em> reported. Last month, a court had sentenced her to 15 days in jail for an unclear offense. Hietka was an independent observer at the 2020 elections and was later fined 1,110 rubels for spreading &#8220;extremism.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Valer Maksimienka, from Navapo\u0142ack, Viciebsk region, was arrested for 10 days for subscribing to &#8220;extremist&#8221; media. Among other things, he was accused of liking a 13-year-old video clip on <em>Belsat TV<\/em> channel, with remarks by Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky, <em>Viciebsk, Ya Gulyayu<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After spending two days in custody, a pro-Russian activist from Viciebsk was found guilty of distributing Nazi symbols, <em>reform.by<\/em> reported. Elvira Mirsalimava was accused of sharing posts by pro-Kremlin blogger Vladlen Tatarsky, killed in St Petersburg in April 2023. The sentence is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least eight administrative cases were considered in the Hrodna region on March 5, <em>Pravo Imeyut<\/em> reported. One of the suspects is Alena Baranova, from the region&#8217;s capital. The sentence is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A district court in Hrodna fined two local residents 1,200 rubels (over $360) each for receiving &#8220;foreign aid,&#8221; <em>Pravo Imeyut<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Krupki District Court, Minsk region, closed a case against a soldier, <em>pravo.by<\/em> reported. He served in the village of Bobr and was accused of subscribing, more than five years ago, to &#8220;extremist&#8221; sources. He somehow managed to prove the lack of criminal intent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 5, the Homiel Regional Court started hearing a case against former journalist Andrej To\u0142\u010dyn, arrested in September 2023, the Viasna center reported. He is charged with supporting extremist activities, defaming the head of state and discrediting Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A judge in \u017dodzina, Minsk region, is trying political prisoner Aleh Rubiec, a suspect in the &#8220;Pinsk case,&#8221; Viasna reported. He is serving a 5.5-year sentence. Prosecutors accuse him of defying prison administration orders. Rubiec spent about 200 days in a punishment cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 5, a district court in Homiel started examining a case against Volha Majorava, Viasna reported. She also is charged with defying prison administration orders. Majorava is serving a 20-year sentence described as politically motivated by Viasna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Extremism lists<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities designated a number of information sources as &#8220;extremist content,&#8221; the Ministry of Information reported. They blacklisted the Telegram channel of Belarusian analyst Ihar Ty\u0161kievi\u010d, who lives in Ukraine. The Telegram and Instagram pages of the &#8220;Council of Navapo\u0142ack,&#8221; the YouTube channel with trending videos, and the TikTok account <em>Vadym1.0<\/em> were also banned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other incidents<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Political prisoner Vadzim Hulevich, sentenced to 18 years for alleged membership of a civil self-defense unit, spent 2.5 months in a punishment cell, Viasna reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For two months, there have been no letters from political prisoner Alena \u0141azar\u010dyk, a European Belarus activist serving an eight-year sentence. Earlier, she was held in a punishment cell, Viasna reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Release<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Political prisoner Alaksandar Bazara\u016d from Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region, was released after serving his sentence, Viasna Brest reported. He had been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for alleged incitement to hatred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of March 6, human rights defenders identified at least 1,412 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
