March 1, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Lithuania expelled 219 Belarusian national last year, said the country\u2019s Migration Department. That was a more than 10-fold increase from 20 Belarusians ordered to leave the country in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians are Lithuania\u2019s second largest ethnic minority (62,165) after Ukrainians (86,352), according to the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania denied entry to 1,734 Belarusians and 1,649 Russians in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only four Belarusians were granted citizenship last year, compared with 16 in 2022, 33 in 2021 and 20 in 2020. Not a single Belarusian qualified for a simplified citizenship procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As many as 2,406 Belarusians had their temporary residence permits revoked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania issued 2,562 national visas and 4,615 Schengen visas to Belarusians in 2022, but the Migration Department has not disclosed data for 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians (287) accounted for 40 percent of applicants for asylum in Lithuania. More than 300 applications were approved and 60 rejected in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
