{"id":6956,"date":"2023-10-20T18:22:16","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=6956"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"eu-court-refuses-to-lift-sanctions-against-maz-and-bielaz","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/6956\/","title":{"rendered":"EU court refuses to lift sanctions against MAZ and Bie\u0142AZ"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>October 20, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The Court of Justice of the European Union on October 18 refused to lift sanctions against the Minski A\u016dtamabilny Zavod (MAZ) and the Bie\u0142aruski A\u016dtamabilny Zavod (Bie\u0142AZ), according to an online database of court decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CJEU noted that the automotive manufacturers are among the leading state companies in Belarus and are a major source of income for the regime of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, which they also benefit from and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the court ruled that the companies are responsible for the crackdown on civil society because their managers intimidated employees and threatened them with dismissal over the strikes and peaceful protests that followed the &#8220;fraudulent&#8221; presidential election of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bie\u0142AZ claimed that it should be removed from the sanctions lists justifying its ties to the state by the fact that it was founded under the communist regime. In addition, the claimants argued that the EU misspelled their names on its lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court found the claims to be unfounded and upheld the sanctions. The companies will also have to pay legal costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 28, the CJEU refused to lift sanctions against the Minsk-based construction company Dana Astra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, it refused to delist Belarusian MPs \u015aviat\u0142ana Lubieckaja, Alaksandar Amieljaniuk, Aleh Hajdukievi\u010d, who leads the pro-government Liberal Democratic Party, Bie\u0142teleradyjo deputy chairman Siarhiej Husa\u010denka, and other \u0141uka\u0161enka supporters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 20, Pozirk.
