We will continue to work for a free, independent and prosperous Belarus.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstr\u00f6m expressed solidarity with \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, assuring her of Sweden&#8217;s support for Belarusians in &#8220;their struggle for freedom.&#8221; Earlier today, the Belarusian opposition leader urged the international community to reject the elections as a &#8220;sham.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The elections are taking place amid mass-scale reprisals and a political landscape purge. Minsk has not invited observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe this year but said that nearly 300 international monitors had been deployed. Most represent the Commonwealth of Independent States and other Russia-led bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not a single opposition candidate was allowed to run, while law enforcers and propaganda workers feature prominently among the potential MPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The central election commission reported record early voting turnout of 41.71 percent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 25, Pozirk.
