February 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has urged the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly to appoint a special reporter or re-establish a working group on Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We need a voice reporting on the situation in Belarus to the OSCE PA,” she told the assembly’s committee in Vienna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja mentioned the recent deaths of jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and jailed Belarusian social democrat Ihar Lednik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She called for a “strong and decisive” response to Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Vladimir Putin, including sanctions and complete isolation until all political prisoners are released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She called on OSCE lawmakers not to recognize the upcoming election for the “so-called parliament” in her country and to expel it from the Parliamentary Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja also suggested inviting members of the Belarusian pro-democratic movement and political parties to the OSCE PA as observers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
