February 6, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The main difference between the Belarusian digital rubel and cryptocurrency is that its value will be controlled by the regulator, said Michai\u0142 Dziemidzienka, deputy head of the National Bank’s research department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you look at the bitcoin exchange rate, it is a very volatile thing,” Dziemidzienka told reporters in Minsk. “It is promising and good for financial speculation but so-so for savings.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the digital rubel is a national currency, the regulator will control its value and volume to keep the purchasing power “at a high level,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the monetary system to be effective, money supply should be limited, the expert said, so digital rubels will be issued in a controlled manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dziemidzienka said that unlike cryptocurrencies, these are “full-fledged money.” According to the regulator’s forecast, Belarusians will be able to make their first payments in digital rubels in early 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
