{"id":46809,"date":"2023-05-12T13:53:18","date_gmt":"2023-05-12T10:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/opposition-politician-urges-un-to-disinvite-lukasenka-from-2023-sdg-summit\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"opposition-politician-urges-un-to-disinvite-lukasenka-from-2023-sdg-summit","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/46809\/","title":{"rendered":"Opposition politician urges UN to disinvite \u0141uka\u0161enka from 2023 SDG Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>May 12, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> Belarus\u2019 leading opposition politician has urged the UN to withdraw the invitation from&nbsp;Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka to the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t &#8220;5K political prisoners in Belarus and 0.5 million forced migrants from Belarus, aren&#8217;t they enough?\u201d Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka of the National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) tweeted.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t &#8220;As Belarusian I demand to retract your statement that UN intends to invite \u0141uka\u0161enka, who usurped power in Belarus,&#8221; he said in an appeal to Gwi Yeop Son, representing the UN Development Cooperation Office.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The summit is scheduled to take place in New York in September.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t \u0141atu\u0161ka also accused \u0141uka\u0161enka of committing war crimes by illegally transferring Ukrainian children to Russia.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The news of a possible SDC Summit invitation to Belarus\u2019 authoritarian ruler surfaced on May 11 in the Belarusian state-run media following Gwi Yeop Son\u2019s visit to Minsk where she reportedly praised Belarus&#8217; experience in achieving the SDGs.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The UN invitation to \u0141uka\u0161enka contains requests from the UN secretary general to accelerate the achievement of SDGs and involve civil society and the private sector along with the government, according to Gwi Yeop Son.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t In July 2022, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja presented an alternative report on Belarus\u2019 SDGs at the UN office in New York.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Systematic and unprecedented human rights abuse prevents Belarus from achieving SDGs, she stressed. Belarusian authorities keep using the UN to boast of the successful implementation of SDGs and complain about sanctions, her report noted.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Cichano\u016dskaja urged the UN to stop providing funds to the Belarusian authorities, citing Minsk\u2019s failure to comply with international human rights obligations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 12, BPN.
