Lawyers virtually lost their independence: since 2021, they can only work in legal consultancies whose heads are appointed by the justice ministry\u2019s approval. Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka said that the lawyers should be \u201cunder control.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t On April 10, the Minsk City Court sentenced defense attorney Alaksandr Danilevi\u010d to 10 years in prison on charges of promoting extremism and calling for sanctions that harmed national security.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Human rights groups list at least&nbsp;six&nbsp;lawyers, including Danilevi\u010d,&nbsp;as political prisoners.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 12, BPN.
