September 2,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>The Lithuanian president has prepared proposals for the fall session of the parliament, leaving out the amendments that would harmonize restrictions for Belarusians and Russians,\u00a0LRT<\/em>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, President Gitanas Naus\u0117da tried to veto a bill regulating the entry and stay of Belarusians and Russians, which was relatively relaxed for Belarusians. The Seimas overrode the veto and passed the bill earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An aide to Belarusian opposition politician \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja praised the Lithuanian leader, who had criticized the preferential treatment of Belarusians as compared to Russians as a security threat, for not trying to push an amendment through the parliament. “Of course, this is a good signal,” Franak Via\u010dorka told BPN<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He acknowledged Naus\u0117da’s concerns, saying: “It is important for him that agents do not infiltrate Lithuania together with Belarusians.” However, this can be done by expanding individual sanctions against regime members and by checking those who request visas and residence permits, Via\u010dorka said. “In no case should all Belarusians be banned,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
