November 7, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The neighboring European Union countries have prevented 15,174 attempts by undocumented third-country foreigners to enter their territory from Belarus this year, 2.7 times fewer than in the same period of 2025, according to Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of recorded attempts at irregular entry was 2.3 times smaller than in the same period of 2024 and 2.6 smaller than in the same period of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 15,000-mark was reached on November 3 this year, on May 30 in 2025, on May 16 in 2024 and on May 27 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of reported irregular entry attempts this year reached 1000 on April 6, 5,000 on May 27, and 10,000 on July 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have accounted for 84.3, 12.5 and 3.2 percent, respectively, of all thwarted entry attempts from Belarus this year. Meanwhile, Belarus has only 173 kilometers of its border in common with Latvia, 399 with Poland and 679 with Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia recorded attempted crossings for 221 consecutive days between March 25 and October 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
