November 6, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Eduard Babaryka, the imprisoned son of former presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka, may have been transferred to a tougher facility, according to the Viasna Human Rights Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A source reportedly told Viasna that Eduard Babaryka had been moved to Pretrial Prison No. 1 in Hrodna, which could indicate that he is facing a new criminal case. However, another source soon said that the man continues to be held in Penal Colony No. 8 in Or\u0161a, Viciebsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eduard Babaryka managed Viktar Babaryka\u2019s presidential campaign in 2020 and was sentenced to eight years in prison on what was widely regarded as trumped-up charges. Later, two more years were added to his term for alleged disobedience to prison rules. In February 2025, he is believed to have stood another trial on a charge of disobeying prison rules. The ruling is unknown. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have blacklisted Eduard Babaryka as an \u201cextremist\u201d and a \u201cterrorist\u201d and have been selling off his property at auctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viktar Babaryka was arrested in June 2000 as his presidential campaign and sentenced to 14 years in prison. He was released and expelled from Belarus in December 2025 as a result of talks between Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Washington\u2019s delegation led by US Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
